Oh, if only these mantels could talk…
Did You Say, “Old Fireplace Mantels?”
As a lifelong Middlefield Ohio resident after 8 years of school, I started working for an uncle doing remodeling work mostly on houses.
In 1977 I was officially named Mr. Happy after 6 years of marriage. With 2 children of our own plus 3 adopted girls (sisters), our family was complete.
In 1984-1985 having my own crew of carpenters we ended up working for a fella named Norm Webb of Mantua, Ohio. Together we took down 2 old century homes and moved them to Hudson Ohio. Then put them back together using new pegs instead of the old pegs. Those houses ended up being beautiful with almost all the original wood.
Then in 1987 I started working in Burton Rubber factory. Then in 2003 went to Goldkey. In 2017 I ended up having open heart surgery, disability soon followed. With having a love for old lumber and old houses, a neighbor friend asked me if I would be interested in making fireplace mantels. Thus, we started to make old and new mantels. We hand hew the new beams. Clean and spray the old barn beams then make them into fireplace mantels.
Do you decorate with a uniquely historical style?
Before you a make your fireplace mantel purchase, take a look at our offerings. We redesign heirloom-quality mantels removed from underground railroad and slave homes in Parkman, Ohio that have stood for more than 160 years.
Washed and treated for termites, bugs etc., our solid-wood mantels are impressively enhanced with old pegs, worm holes or original nails and tenons. We will custom paint and stain to your taste.
And for those who love the new, we make hand-hewn, solid-wood, Eastern Pine mantels. Each is custom stained to enhance the character of the wood, and sure to be a conversation piece in your home.
